About United States
The United States of America was primarily inhabited by Native Americas, whose ancestors crossed the Beringia (an ancient land bridge) from Asia to what is now Alaska some 15,000 years ago.
Christopher Columbus is credited with founding America in 1493, primarily because he sailed and explored the regions near Puerto Rico and ultimately brought the attention of British explorers to the area. It wouldn't be until almost 100 years later, when settlers would stop at Plymouth rock around 1600.
As settlers began flocking to the 'New World', the colonies began to expand throughout the land, forming the 13 colonies, which consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
Throughout the years, the population of the colonies greatly increased, reaching 2.5 million by 1775.
The colonies were not allowed representation in the Parliament in London, which means they weren't allowed any say in laws, or basically what happens in the New World. These actions led to our founding fathers singing the deceleration of independence in 1776, which freed the New World from Britain's control and led to our country's name, The United States of America.
America had already built up a strong government, but needed firm foundations to stand by, which prompted the creation of the Bill of Rights in 1788. Just one year later, America's first president, George Washington was sworn into office in 1789.
Through many wars and battles, the United States gained more pieces of land that would eventually equate to 50 states. Our elected officials have listened to the views of the American public and made changes for the better by applying laws and assisting their communities in local initiatives.
The United States has become one of the most powerful countries by aiding in technological advancements and other historical discoveries that forever changed how the people of the planet operate on a day to day basis.
