US Open

US Open

The U.S. Open Golf Championship is the open golf tournament of the U.S., hosted annually by the USGA. The tournament is played in mid-June and if there are no weather delays the final round is held on Fathers Day. A U.S. Open course is usually long, with a high cut of open rough. It is also usually full of hilly greens and puts a premium on accurate driving.

About US Open

Unlike the other four major championships, the U.S. Open does not go into a playoff in the event of two or more players being tied after four rounds. In that event, a fifth 18-hole round is played on Monday. If a tie still exists, a 'sudden death' playoff is held. This happened in 2008 when Tiger woods beat Rocco Mediate at the first playoff hole.

In 2011, the 111th U.S. Open was played in Bethesda, MD at the Congressional Country Club.
