Vampires

Vampires

Vampires are an enduring theme of literature, movies and TV, originating in an Eastern European mythological blood-sucking bat that transforms into a man and can never die. From its earliest appearance in literature in Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' to today's hit 'Twilight' movie saga, the blood-thirsty creature is doing better than ever.

About Vampires

A vampire is a mythological person who lives off of the blood of living things, typically humans. The term became popular in the 18th century as the vampire superstition grew in Western Europe. The vampire myth has been a fruitful one for literature, beginning with Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' in the 19th century, up to today's 'Vampire Diaries'.

Vampires, and Count Dracula, were the subjec of an early silent movie hit called 'Nosferatu'. The classic film 'Dracula' with Bela Lugosi, is still a thrill to watch. Many remakes of that movie have been made, and the genre gained new life in the 21st century with the Twilight saga, the Vampire Diaries TV show, and many other variations on the theme. The Vampire theme is deathless!
