Veterans Day

Veterans Day

The first Veterans Day, then called Armistice Day, was on Nov. 11, 1919. Its purpose was to commemorate the signing of the temporary halt to hostilities between the Allied forces and Germany. This treaty effectively ended what was called at the time the Great War, or The War to End All Wars, or as we call it today, World War I. The treaty was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour. After it became apparent wars were not a thing of the past, the name of the holiday was changed to Veterans Day to honor the sacrifices our service members have made all over the world.
