Walgreens is a popular, nationwide pharmacy and convenience store. Walgreens also offers an online store to order and have medicine and wellness products shipped.

About Walgreens

Walgreens has quite an impressive history that dates back all the way to the beginning of the 1900's. In 1901, Charles R. Walgreen, Sr. bought a Chicago drugstore where he had formerly worked as a pharmacist. This was the beginning of the Walgreens chain. Walgreen's goal was to guarantee high quality for the lowest prices by producing his own line of drugs. In 1909, the second Walgreens store opened and by 1916, nine stores incorporated to form Walgreen Co.

By the time 1927 rolled around, there were 100 stores, and the Walgreen Co. stock officially went public. Charles Walgreen, Jr. became the company's president when Charles Walgreen, Sr. passed away in 1939. From there, Walgreens began to undertake several large ventures, even internationally.

In 1968, Walgreens became the first major drug chain to place its prescriptions in child-proof containers. By 2002, Walgreens had opened over 3,000 stores and became the first drugstore to print prescription labels in 14 different languages.

Today, Walgreens has over 6,000 stores, and they started offering in-store health clinics to further cater to their customers.
