About Wii

The company known for Mario and The Legend of Zelda released the successor to the popular GameCube system on November 19, 2006. The Nintendo Wii launched with a pricetag of $250. The unit underwent a price cut on September 23, 2009 of $50, dropping the retail price to $199. The lowest cost of any home video game console, to date, elda over 65 million units have been sold, which makes it Nintendo's best selling console. The revolutionary Nintendo Wii broke the record for most units sold in a month after its launch (Dec. 09). What is outstanding about the console is that the Wii revolutionized not only the way people play video games with motion controls, but who plays them.

The Wii was created to compete with the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. But instead of fighting the same 'who has the best visuals and processor' war, Nintendo launched the unique Wii. The console uses a wireless controller which acts as a remote and a pointing device. This means the sensors within the remote can actually tell when you rotate your hand or wrist. It then manipulates your character's hand or wrist.

An added bonus for Wii purchasers, the unit comes with Wii Sports at no extra cost, which makes it the most popular game for the Wii platform. The Wii allows the users to connect to wireless internet, Bluetooth devices, or through two USB 2.0 ports. Users may also access the Wii Store for updates and content.
