About World Series

The World Series is the annual Championship series of the highest level of professional baseball in the US and Canada. The World Series was formed in 1903 and has served as the conclusion of the Major League Baseball season ever since. The World Series is played between the two best teams from separate divisions each year. Representatives from the American and National League meet for the right to be called the best team in the MLB.

The World Series has been played every year with the exception of 1904 (boycott) and 1994 (player strike). The winner of the World Series is determined by a best-of-seven series, except for 1903, 1919, 1920, and 1921 when the winner was determined from a best-of-nine series. The winner of The Series receives the Commissioner's Trophy, while players and team executives receive individual World Series Championship Rings.

Since the World Series takes place annually in October, sportswriters have dubbed the event the 'Fall Classic,' 'October Classic,' and 'The Series.'

The New York Yankees have the best luck when it comes to the World Series. The Yankees have played in 40 of 105 World Series, and have won 27 times. On the flip side, the Chicago Cubs have played the longest since winning the World Series. Their last World Series Championship came in 1908.
