Wyoming

Wyoming is a state in the Western United States that is bordered by Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho. The state has a semi-arid and continental climate with drier and higher temperature extremes than the rest of the country. Temperatures in the summer months are warm with highs in the 80’s-90’s F. The winter months are cooler with occasional extreme cold or mild periods.

About Wyoming

The name Wyoming means at the big river flat, and is partially named after the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania. The Wyoming Territory was established by the federal government on July 25, 1868 after a growing population helped along by the Union Pacific Railroad. Wyoming was admitted to the Union on July 10, 1890 as the 44th state with a total land area of 97,814 sq miles.

The capital of Wyoming is Cheyenne and is also the largest city. Wyoming is also known as the Equality State. The state bird is the Western Meadowlark, the state flower is the Indian Paintbrush, and the state tree is the Plains Cottonwood. The state motto of Wyoming is Equal Rights.

The biggest attraction in Wyoming is nature and the beauty this state has to offer. The Yellowstone National Park will keep a nature lover busy for days! The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone provides breathtaking views and waterfalls. Go fishing for trout in the Yellowstone Lake or check out the Upper Geyser Basin for multiple geysers. End your Yellowstone day at the Old West Dinner Cookout dinner theater which is sure to entertain the whole gang and satisfy the stomach!

In the capital city of Cheyenne grab a seat at the Rodeo or hop on the Street Railway Trolley to take in the sites of this historic town. The railroad buff will not want to miss a stop at the Big Boy Steam Engine, the world's largest steam locomotive. Why just watch when you get into the action of a raft ride with Jackson Hole Whitewater in Jackson Hole. Scenic or whitewater, the choice is yours!
